Project 365 : 70/365 – Self Portrait

Maybe I am running out of ideas, maybe I am getting just a little vain (definitely not the latter) but I am having a little fun getting back into playing with off camera flash again.  It is a lot of fun playing around with the position of the SB-600 as well as using or not using a shoot through umbrella.

Project 365 : 66/365 – Bok Choy

Over the past few weeks Miranda and I have been expanding the range of the fruits and vegetables that we get while at Whole Foods and at the Farmers Market.  What has been great is that we haven’t planned a weekly dinner menu but Miranda has been able to combine what we have shopped for in amazing combinations that I have enjoyed eating a great deal.

This is the first time that I think either one of us have ever bought bok choy.  I cannot wait to see how these little gems end up on our dinner plate but for now, I am just having a lot of fun saying bok choy.

Project 365 : 63/365 – Another Self Portrait

I finally figured out the issues that I was having getting the auto-focus to work when I used my Nikon ML-L3 Remote today.  Not sure exactly how, but I am not complaining.  I have been wanting to do some more dramatically lit self portraits so I used my SB-600 without the umbrella for this photograph.  I really like the way that it came out but I think with more practice I can get less of the shadow on my right shoulder in the future.

Project 365 : 57/365 – Miranda Writing

Over the past few weeks Miranda has gotten into full swing with her new positions writing for Marvelous Girl and Joonbug.  I love coming home and seeing her in her element at our kitchen table putting together her pieces.  Be sure to check her out on both sites!

Project 365 : 55/365 – Caramel DeLites (Samoas)

It is one of my favorite times of year! Of course it is not Christmas or my birthday.  It is the time of year when these amazing boxes of deliciousness arrive.  That’s right, I got my Girl Scout cookies this week.  I chose my favorites of the the lot that I bought to feature today.

I noticed last year that the name had changed from ‘Samoas’ to ‘Caramel DeLites’.  I am not sure why the name changed and I am finding from friends around the country that both names are still being used.  Leave a comment below and let me know what they are called now where you live.

Portrait Session With My Beautiful Wife

Saturday night I took another shot photographing Miranda with off camera lighting.  I used the same set-up that I have used before when making these photographs (SB-600 diffused with a white shoot through umbrella) and I have to say, it went a lot smoother than it did the first time.

The time that I have invested playing with the flash has really paid off.  Knowing the shutter speed and the aperture that I wanted to use made it very easy to make some test photographs to dial in the power on the flash.  After that, only minor aperture and shutter speed tweaks were made.

Here are a few of my favorite photographs from the evening:

* All of these photographs were made with the D90 and the SB-600 in full manual mode.  The flash was fired with Cactus Triggers.
