Grand Prize Winner !!!
A couple of weeks ago I met up with Steve Ip for a special Photographers Night hosted by Aquarium of the Pacific. The doors were opened for photographers and all their equipment from 6-9 that evening. It was an amazing opportunity to wander through exhibits freely.
As part of the night, the Aquarium of the Pacific sponsored a photo contest via their Flickr Group in which three prizes were awarded. I am pleased to announce that upon returning home from work this afternoon I received notification that my entry was the Grand Prize Winner!! My award entails an “up-close encounter” with either sharks, sea lions, or otters that can be shared with up to 3 friends. I am extremely excited about this!
Without further ado, here is the winning entry:

Day 8 of Project 50
I came home today after work to having the temperature 88 degrees in our house! 88 degrees at 5 p.m. on April 20th! After opening all the doors and windows I went for a seat on our front steps to cool off a bit and I was greeted by the community cat, C.C. C.C. isn’t ours, but she might as well be. Her days are spent on our front porch where she gets her meals, water, and affection. I felt particularly bad for her on such a hot day even offering her some fresh water with ice cubes. She didn’t seem that interested so I did the next logical thing. I grabbed my camera and took her photograph.

Day 7 of Project 50
I spent a good chunk of the day teetering on the edge of a barstool in front of a television at the local bar in absolute agony watching the Flyers decimate the Penguins on national television. I know. It was an amazingly warm and sunny day in Long Beach today and the last place that I should have been was at a bar.
My day took a fortuitous turn when I got home to find my wife unloading groceries from Whole Foods from her car. Something that we usually do together on Sunday’s, she got the whole list herself. After dinner, I realized that I still needed a shot for my daily entry in Project 50. I went into our office to grab my camera and I heard the sink running. The Mrs. was now washing the dishes that I had messed up earlier in the morning.
It immediately struck me that a shot of my wife (in all her dishwashing glory) would be an appropriate entry to my Project 50 on a day where she has done so much for me.

Day 6 of Project 50
I spent a few hours at the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA this afternoon and I got a bunch of great shots that I will be sharing in another post very soon.
What I would like to share right now is my latest entry into Project 50. This shot combines a few attributes that rarely show up in the shots that I have taken. I combined a tripod with a long exposure to achieve the effect of adding some motion to the water.

Day 5 of Project 50
Early this evening I jumped in with my wife as she had something to do downtown in Los Angeles. I got to walk around a bit for a few minutes at L.A. Live between the Staples Center and The Nokia Theater.
The shadows were pretty harsh so I looked upward and found myself focusing on the lines of the buildings. Here is my selection for Day 5 of Project 50:

Day 4 of Project 50
Being a particularly beautiful and sunny Southern California afternoon, I thought that I would take advantage and have my fourth entry into Project 50 be one that was taken outdoors. Of course there a lot of beautiful flowers in bloom but I wanted to stretch myself and to try something a little different. Rather than focusing my camera on all the flora all around me, I chose a subject of an inorganic nature. Here are a couple of signs on my street.
