Project 365 : 200/365 – Saying Goodbye
It is time for me and my 70-300mm VR to part ways. I was pretty excited when I got it but since my obsession with fast glass set in, it rarely made its way out of my bag. So, it is time to say goodbye so that I can make some of the upgrades that I have been saving for over the past few months. I will be listing the lens on eBay in the next 24 hours so if you are interested in it, let me know.
On a side note: Holy cow! It is day 200 already! Wow! I can’t believe that I have made it this far!!

Shots from the Huntington Beach Pier3
I left the house on this overcast morning to head down to the Huntington Beach Pier to play with my 70-300mm VR lens and to capture some shots of the local surfers. I shot everything in RAW and I am not quite sure how I feel about the edits.
I have found it particularly hard to edit these shots as well as the ones that I took last week at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy. Both days were overcast and in both cases, the shots were taken from above and focusing on subjects that were in or on darker water.
Here are a couple from today. Tell me what you think.

Newport Landing Whale and Dolphin Watching Cruise
My wife and I got up a little earlier than usual on a Saturday morning for a trip down to Newport Beach this morning to jump on a Newport Landing Whale and Dolphin Watching Cruise. We were told that there had been recent sightings of Gray Whales migrating on the coast. Sadly, on our 25 hour tour, we did not see any whales. We did see a ton of wonderfully playful Bottlenose Dolphin and some Sea Lions which was amazing.
It was a tremendous amount of fun watching the dolphin swim up to and around the boat. I had my D80 equipped with my AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED in order to get really close. While I got some great shots, I was a little slow in capturing a few of the jumps that we witnessed. It was the first time I tried to use the 70-300mm VR to capture live action and I have to say, the lens was fast enough. I on the other hand was not.
