Maybe I Was Crazy : iPhone 3GS > HTC EVO > iPhone 4

I may have thrown a few of you (including Miranda) a loop over the last week when I dropped my iPhone 3GS in favor of the HTC EVO just to move to an iPhone 4 just a few days later.  Here I hope to summarize my thoughts on the experience.

The combination of  knowing that it could have been weeks before I could have gotten my hands on an iPhone 4, discovering the HTC EVO, and learning about Sprint’s 30 no risk trial all propelled me into a Sprint store last week to give the EVO a shot (once I tracked one down of course).

The EVO is a beast.  It has a solid build and feels great in your hand.  The device is blazing fast, the Sprint service is perfect, and the screen is humongous.  When it is in your hand it makes the iPhone look like a toy.  I really cannot say anything too bad about the phone itself other than the battery life is very poor (which is a well documented issue).

So, if I was so impressed with the EVO, why did I drop it after a week to go back to the world of Apple?  Being a Mac and an iPhone user over the past few years I have become quite accustomed to how the devices and the software worked together.  iTunes, iCal, iPhone, and Address Book are useless when you want to move their contents onto a non-iPhone mobile device.  Yes, there are third party software programs out there that can assist with this but the ones I had tried were not stable or they were not free.

Lastly, I have also become accustomed to the service that I receive when taking any Apple product into the Genius Bar. I was concerned that the same level of service if I had a similar issue with the EVO would not be there if I needed it with Sprint.

All that said, I am happy to have the iPhone 4 in my pocket and the familiarity and elegance that comes with it.  My interest is piqued with the Android system and the phones that use them.  I will be keeping my eye out to see how they advance and integrate themselves over the next year.

I am curious to know your experiences with this.  Do you favor the Apple or the Android run phones?
