Photographic Paper Finish – Which Finish Is Your Favorite?

Before I started having prints of my photographs made, I had never put thought into the finish of the paper that was being used.  My selection was and probably will be Lustre because I like its balance between matte and glossy but I had to put this to the test.  I requested sample prints that would demonstrate to me what each finish looked like and I received glossy, lustre, matte, metallic, and silk.  After seeing the difference between them all I feel confident about my selection for using the lustre.  The glossys were, well, too glossy for me.  I did not like that I saw my reflection when I was looking at them.

I am curious to know which that you prefer.  Please take a second and vote in the poll below.  If you would be so kind, leave a comment with why you like the finish that you do.

What finish do you prefer on your prints?

I’ve never had prints made, myself, but I’ve purchased prints before and out of those, the matted prints were preferred. The glossy and lustre paper’s tend to attract dust and, especially fingerprints. The matted paper can, as well, but it isn’t quite as apparent.

    Good luck!
