Digitally Signing Your Photographs
As some of you have noticed, I have learned how to put my signature onto the photos that I publish here. I do this for a couple of reasons but ultimately, I think it looks cool.
Here is a step by step guide on how to do it yourself so long as you have Photoshop. I use CS3 and I imagine that the directions here can translate to other Photoshop versions but I am not 100%.
To start, you will need a few (maybe not so) basic things. You will need Photoshop, a scanner, a black pen and a white piece of paper.
The first thing that you need to do is to sign your name a few times on the piece of paper and scan it as a JPG onto your computer. Make sure that you are scanning at 300 dpi when you do this. Once it is captured, open the JPG in Photoshop. If you did more than one signature, choose one and crop it so that the others are gone.
Next, under the “Edit” menu in Photoshop, select “Define Brush Preset”. A dialog box will open asking you to name the brush that you are creating. Use your initials or whatever you choose to identify the brush as your signature.
That’s it! The brush is created and is now a part of Photoshop.
Once you finish editing any photograph now or in the future, all you have to do is to select the brush tool (B on the keyboard) and find you signature somewhere on the bottom, choose it, and then click on the part of the photograph where you wish to see your signature.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
I learned how to do this by reading The Adobe Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) by Scott Kelby . I highly recommend this book!
